Unveiling Spare’s Guiding Principles: Drive Results

Welcome to Part 4 of our blog series “Unveiling Spare’s Guiding Principles”. In this week's edition, we take a look into our ‘Drive Results' principle. Each blog dives into one of our guiding principles—Take Ownership, Growth Mindset, Execute with Urgency, Drive Results, No Assholes, and Customer-Obsession— exploring what they mean to us, how they shape our culture, and the impact they have on our daily operations.

What does ‘Drive Results’ mean?

At its core, to ‘Drive Results’ is to prioritize measurable outcomes over efforts. It’s about being resourceful, creative, and goal-oriented in our approach. When we say we measure results over effort, it doesn’t mean that effort is not important. While effort is a driver of success, it’s important to note that success is not always linear. Some individuals exert significant effort yet achieve minimal results, while others may achieve great results with relatively little effort. Most times it’s about working smarter, not harder, and sometimes, it's about being at the right place at the right time.

Why does this principle matter?

In today’s competitive world, results are what keep us ahead of the curve. It’s about maximizing the return on our investments — whether that’s in terms of time, resources, or energy. By focusing on the result we want to achieve, we ensure that our efforts are aligned with our overarching goals, leading to greater efficiency, effectiveness and impact.

I want to commend Alina for her efforts to push a number of open roles to offer this week! She is really driving results. She has not let up on the gas as we approach the holidays, as well as being very customer-focused in delivering a great candidate experience for all our applicants. Great job Alina!

- Rebecca Apostoli (Director, People) acknowledging Alina Fialho (Talent Acquisition Specialist II)

When we think of success as linear, it often leads to feelings of discouragement when we invest a considerable amount of effort but see minimal results. In turn, this can lead to burnout. That’s why we need to efficiently utilize our efforts to work smarter by setting clear goals and monitoring progress.

‘Drive Results’ at Spare

At Spare, we understand that success is a journey— one that requires resilience, adaptability, and continuous improvement. We understand that success is never guaranteed by effort alone. Instead, we focus on being strategic and proactive in our approach. By prioritizing results, setting goals, and driving progress, we position ourselves for continued growth and success.

Acorns to Jonathan for an epic couple of weeks! Taking on 2 new customers, running 5 x training sessions, setting up and leading an Engage demo and running through a complex flexibility discussion with a customer today. I’m really impressed with Jonathan’s can do attitude and I’m excited to see what the next few months hold. Thank you for all your hard work, we’re very lucky to have you on the Launch Team!

- Fenella O’Brien (Manager, Partner Success) acknowledging Jonathan McKenzie (Senior Partner Launch Manager)

At times, we may fall short of our desired outcomes, but it doesn't mean that our efforts are meaningless. As the saying goes, “Dead last is greater than did not finish, which trumps did not start”. It is important to remember that making the effort, even if you don’t achieve immediate results, is always worthwhile. Falling short of your desired outcomes happens more often than you think, in fact, persisting despite setbacks has become the foundation for success. And remember, driving results are almost never linear; it involves a combination of factors including preparation, goal setting, tracking, circumstances, effort and luck.
